So this time we got some specific questions from DBC, and I'll post them here with my answers. Theme this week is...
First we are to pick values, that bring us to the place where we felt the best of ourselves, and we are to give them value from 1 to 5 of how much we live up to them. This is the results I got:
Value | Grade |
---|---|
Accomplishment | 3 |
Challenge | 3 |
Community | 2 |
Confidence | 2 |
Courage | 4 |
Enthusiasm | 4 |
Honesty | 5 |
Justice | 5 |
Knowledge | 5 |
Meaningful work | 4 |
Music | 3 |
Patriotism | 3 |
Truth | 5 |
Wisdom | 4 |
Now we are to pick a value that is the most important for us, and talk about it.
I believe in honesty, truth and justice. They are related so I'm going to mention all of them. One reason why I believe in them is because of my up bring. My father has very strong sense of justice, and he raised me in the same manner. If he wouldn't have, I probably wouldn't be here today.
Years ago, I found myself in a situation where me and some friends of mine did something we should't have. When confronted with it, I confessed and received a penalty. Other's didn’t confess, and didn't receive a penalty, and they were free to leave that night, from where never came back. If I wouldn't have told the truth, if I weren't honest, I would, like them, paid the ultimate price. That is why this three values have a special place.
Next we are asked about the last advice we gave, and what value was it related to.
I can't really remember when I was last time asked for advice, but I remember having a debate about environmentalism. It's not something I choose in my list, but it's still a value I feel strongly about.
And finally, how do we feel about our values, and if they can help us lift our spirits, when we are down.
I feel good about it. Of course I do. It's something I live by. These values are a part of me, and I would be a different person if I'd have different values. I believe that the values I value the most, are the ones that are the most important. Some might have something else in mind, but for me it's these ones. I haven't tried this technic of cheering up. Looking at my values, finding myself again, and be happy about it. I'll sure try it at DBC, and I hope they work, because nobody likes to be down, and we all want to get up ASAP.
If we wouldn't, what would be the point then?
